A 7.0 earthquake struck the impoverished country Haiti 10 miles southwest of the capital of Port au Prince at 4:53 p.m. Eastern, Tuesday, January 12, 2010.
 
Damage and casualty levels are high.
 
In response to the emergency in Haiti due to the earthquake, Metropolitan Stefan has asked that a special collection be taken this weekend to help the survivors.
