Christmas Bread ( strutslia).

Today, the warm aroma of freshly baked bread filled the air inside Assumption Ukrainian Catholic Church in Perth Amboy, NJ. Upon entering the church kitchen, the source of the fragrance was quickly revealed: several pans of traditional Ukrainian Christmas bread (strutslia) and prosphora bread being baked and taken out of the oven.In the Gospel, Jesus calls Himself the “Bread of Life” and was born in Bethlehem, the “House of Bread.” In this spirit, a well-organized group of dedicated volunteers continues this beautiful baking tradition, preparing bread made with love for families to share at their Christmas Eve Supper. Special thanks to Mrs. Colette Baginsky and her helpers John, Irene, Mary, and Liza who came all the way from North Carolina to take part in this meaningful tradition. Wishing everyone Merry Christmas and Veselykh Sviat!
