Generations of Faith Program

“ Blessed Mother – Save Us” was the theme of the third Generations of Faith Program (GOF) conducted at our parish last Sunday.  The bilingual program was organized by the GOF committee and the Missionary Sisters of the Mother of God.  After a free lunch, more than eighty-five people in attendance engaged in a lively exchange of ideas concerning devotion to the Blessed Mother of God as the diverse group, ranging in age from elementary-school children to senior citizens, worked to apply Mary’s  “Yes” at the Annunciation to our daily life.  The following questions were presented for discussion:
• Who instilled love of the Blessed Mother in your life?
• How have the practices of devotion to Mary at Assumption Ukrainian Catholic Church or other parishes influenced your private devotion to Mary?
• Why do you think the Blessed Mother appears at certain places and to certain people or in certain countries?
• Mary’s “Yes” transformed the world. Have you said “Yes” to God at times when you did not know what is happening yet like Mary you trusted enough in God to say “Yes.”
• How can the Blessed Mother by her example be the intercessor in your life to increase your faith, strengthen your hope, and reawaken your charity?
We thank  our speakers and everyone who helped to make the program very interesting and enjoyable.

Church Sign

A study of the church attendance in the USA   found that 10% of the adults who join American congregations each year decide to visit for the first time after seeing the CHURCH SIGN.  It has now been nearly five years since we have installed our church sign in front of the church. This beautiful mahogany sign with 24K gold-leaf gilding has been an outstanding addition not only to our church but to the whole community. Unfortunately, the church sign  didn’t have the schedule of the weekend Liturgies, so this week,  the time and schedule was added to the sign. We thank Peter  and Andrew Baralecki  for the installation work.

Happy Birthday Father Ivan!

February 28, 2012 was a very special day here at ACS. The students eagerly waited in the cafeteria for the arrival of Father Ivan.  Not only was Father Ivan celebrating his birthday, he is also now a United States citizen! The teachers and students sang happy birthday to Father Ivan and then enjoyed cupcakes and munchkins.  Father was presented with cards made by the students as well as a beautiful bouquet of flowers to congratulate him on his new citizenship. Happy birthday Father Ivan!
