Theophany Feast

On the feast day of Theophany, following the Divine Liturgy, the Great Blessing of the Water took place at Assumption Catholic Church in Perth Amboy, NJ. This year, the faithful together with their pastor Fr. Ivan Turyk celebrated this holy day outside the church and in front of the Cross that was carved from solid ice. The feast commemorates the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan River, as well as the manifestation of the Holy Trinity. It also marks the beginning of Christ’s public ministry. Following the blessing of water, all the faithful were invited to the church hall to enjoy the parish hospitality, homemade vine and yummy shish kebab luncheon. At the luncheon three thousand dollars were raised for the military medical center in the town of Irpin, Kyiv region, where the wounded Ukrainian soldiers are being treated. At the conclusion of our celebration and a luncheon that raised funds for our soldiers in Ukraine, we all in our hearts heard the Lord’s voice, “You are my beloved sons and daughters, in you I am well pleased.

St. Ann’s Society Christmas Party

The wonderful Christmas celebration was held on Sunday, January 13 for members of St. Ann’s Society of the Assumption Catholic Church in Perth Amboy, NJ. The afternoon of fellowship and sharing a meal made for a festive and fun time! May God bless all ladies abundantly for their loving service to our church.

The annual Holy Name Christmas Party

The Holy Name Society of our parish held its annual Christmas party on January 12, 2019 at the “Barge” restaurant. Holy Name Society is the men’s organization that provides opportunities for the men of our parish to socialize and to assist the parish where they are needed.

Christmas Eve Holy Supper

On Christmas Eve, January 6th, 2019 the Assumption parish in Perth Amboy, NJ has sponsored a traditional Holy Supper (Sviaty Vechir ) for all parishioners and guests. Many tasty meatless dishes were prepared and shared. Filled with the spirit of the carols and poetry, more than 220 people truly enjoyed a traditional Christmas foods in anticipation of Christ’s birth. The parishioners shared a meal with one another while the parish choir “Boyan” and children sang beautiful carols, along with other songs of the season. The pastor Fr. Ivan Turyk and parishioners immensely enjoyed the visit of our bishop, Most Rev. Andriy Rabiy, Apostolic Administrator for Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Philadelphia, who joined parishioners for the Holy Supper. After sharing a meal, His Excellency spoke thanking the choir and children for the songs and a Christmas play, commending Assumption parish for our faith and hard work, and encouraging us to spread the Christmas spirit and joy with other people. Thank you to the Holy Name  members  for sponsoring this event and for cooking lenten foods  for us to share during the Christmas Eve supper. Bishop Andriy Rabiy celebrates the Divine Liturgy of the Nativity of the Lord ( Julian Calendar) at Assumption Parish.

On Sunday, January 7, 2019 His Grace, Most. Rev. Andriy Rabiy served the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy with the Assumption Catholic Church community of Perth Amboy, NJ along with host parish priest Rev. Ivan Turyk. As His Grace arrived to celebrate the Liturgy, he was greeted with the traditional bread by the parish financial officer Michael Raab Jr and Anastasia Lytvyn presented His Grace with a bouquet of flowers. During the Christmas Divine Liturgy, His Grace spoke movingly about the meaning of Christmas and reassured all the faithful that no matter how long since their last visit, they will always find their spiritual home ready and waiting to welcome them at Assumption parish. It was really an inspiring and a beautiful Christmas Liturgy, with melodious responses sang by our Church Choir “Boyan”.

Senior Citizens Christmas Party

At Assumption parish, we are blessed to have not only many seniors but also the Parish Senior Club. The members of the club gather once a month, on the first Thursday of the month at 12 noon in the parish hall. They enjoy each other’s company, share lunch and listen to Fr. Ivan or other speakers offering reflections on different topics. They also sponsor some parish events and organize trips to a casino. This past Thursday, December 13, the seniors citizen’s Christmas party was held at the Superior Diner in Perth Amboy, NJ. After a delicious lunch all in attendance received a poinsettia, a donation from Novak Funeral Home, a box of cookies and Fr. Ivan was given a Christmas tree skirt for the rectory tree. The seniors also donated $2,000 to the Church for ongoing parish programs.
