If you know of a youth's achievement, such as: making the Dean's list, a sports honor, performances, acceptance into societies, teams, or groups, founding a business, military service, community service, ethnic activities, or high school or college graduation, please send the name, achievement, and a bit of background to the rectory e mail.

Parishioner Youth Honored

Parishioner Nicole Baginsky, ACS ’06, was recently honored as a Greater Middlesex Conference Scholar – Athlete at the Pines Manor in Edison, NJ.  Nicole has just graduated from Cardinal McCarrick High School in South Amboy, ranked 11th in her class.  She is a member of the National Honor Society, the Lyceum and various other clubs and organizations at the school.  Nicole led the Lady Eagles Bowling Team to its first undefeated season this past year, winning the GMC Blue Division Title and the Central New Jersey Section I Championship. The Lady Eagles finished 2nd in the State Sectional Championship this year. Nicole rewrote the Cardinal McCarrick record book; she currently holds all of the Lady Eagles bowling records (something she also did in the Assumption Catholic School Bowling Leagues). Her 2008 – 2009 GMC Individual Tournament Championship was the first Individual Championship won by a Cardinal McCarrick athlete.  Nicole is planning to further her academic and athletic careers at New Jersey City University where she plans to major in Psychology and bowl for the nationally ranked Gothic Knights.

Memorial Day 2010 Ceremony Held

Our traditional, annual Memorial Day service was held at the parish cemetery on Monday morning, May 31.

The ceremony started at the Veterans Monument honoring the twelve parishioners who died serving our country in WWI and WWII. Following next was a panakhyda at the cemetery circle, the site of the Shrine of the Resurrection of Christ, and then at the grave of former Assistant Pastor Father Dmytro Fedasiuk.

The service concluded with taps performed by parishioner, US Army Sergeant First Class John Grausam.

To our dear veterans who have passed away, especially those who died in action, we say, "Vichnaya Pahmyat – Eternal Memory."

Craving Borscht?

We came across this delectable-looking recipe for borscht.

Many variants of borscht are prepared throughout Eastern Europe, and every cook has their favorite recipe, or two.

Besides the health benefits of the red beet cited in the article, borscht tastes great.

Смачного!
